Story summary: A little bird reads a book out loud to entice a dog named Rocket to learn to read.  The little bird teaches the alphabet to Rocket and then has to fly south for the winter.  Rocket practices sounding out words and working on his alphabet all winter.  Rocket is more than ready to learn to read when the little bird returns in the spring.

My reaction:  What a fun way to introduce the beauty of reading to children.
