According to vocabulary.com, dystopia describes an imaginary society that is as dehumanizing and unpleasant as possible. Although the characters did not seem to feel the unpleasantness of their existence in the two novels of this genre that I read, the reader can clearly see why their situation would not be ideal.
It is fun to explore the world in this way: What if there were no decisions one had to make, no attachments, and no pain because so much of these other things were true. It sounds ideal but these authors show the fallacy of thinking this way. There are choices to make, we do get attached to others and these things alone bring pain. They also bring much fulfillment to our lives. These books, if you think deeply enough, illustrate for us that we do not need to be controlled by anyone and that we need each other, with all our human faults, attachments and pain.
