One Thousand Tracings

Authored and Illustrated by Lita Judge

2007
Age ranges: Grades 3-5
Genre(s): historical fiction, multicultural

Story summary:  Based on a true story, little girl tells the story of how her American parents helped many Germans affected by World War II by sending care packages and shoes.  This book is beautifully illustrated not only with drawings but also with actual photographs and photos of the shoe tracings that were sent in order for the benefactors to know which shoe size to send.

My reaction:  What a beautiful story of caring and selflessness.  I would love to share this with young children!
Activity:  Have children select a person featured on the author's webpage and write a story from that person's perspective.  http://tracings.litajudge.com/stories.html
