Graphic Novels

     I am glad I was required to read graphic novels.  This is a new format for me (besides the comic books I read when I was younger).  The thing I liked most about the two graphic novels I read was the fast-paced storyline.  It was a challenge to remember to study the pictures, as they enhanced the storyline and told some of the story but, once I got used to it, this was an enjoyable experience.
     In the Boxcar Children story, I had to take a moment and familiarize myself with the underlying story.  I actually had to go back and reread to get the story clearly.  I believe this is because the book is one in a series and, since graphic novels give you the very basic information, there was some information that had to be gathered, it was not given.
     In War Brothers, I was amazed at the powerful story that was told through the pictures and the small amount of text!  The emotion it evoked will fulfill the purpose behind why the story was written, to bring to light the hardships of the child soldiers in Uganda.  I enjoyed this book very much and felt the author did a nice job of utilizing the graphic novel structure to tell his story in a convincing way.
     I will be reading more of these types of books in the future.
