2004Age ranges: Grades K-2
Genre(s): historical fiction, multicultural, poetry
Story summary: Author, Janice Harrington, shares her feelings and experiences of when her African-America family left the segregated south for what they were hoping would be a new and better life in the north.
My reaction: This book would be good to show students what people had to go through because of prejudice in our own nation. The poetic language used offers a means to add more feeling to the story.
