Arbor Day Square

By Kathryn O. Galbraith

Illustrated by Cyd Moore

2010
Age ranges: Grades K-2
Genre(s): realistic/historical fiction
Golden Sower Award

Story summary:  Katie, a young pioneer, is excited when her frontier town gets together to order trees. When the trees come, Katie is concerned that the saplings are too weak to survive. The trees do grow and survive, just as her father assures her they will. This is a fictional account written to introduce the first Arbor Day celebration.

My reaction:  This book would be a great way to introduce the Arbor Day holiday.
