Chicks and Salsa

Story summary: The chickens get tired of their chicken feed. The rooster watches cooking shows from his perch outside the farmhouse window. He decides to make salsa!  After gathering the ingredients from the farmer's garden the chickens spice up the barnyard with yummy salsa smells. This gives the other animals ideas and a southwestern feeding frenzy erupts across the barnyard.

My reaction:  This colorfully illustrated book would be a humorous way to introduce children to the idea of different foods in different cultures. This book is leveled on the Scholastic site as grades K-2 but I could definitely see it being enjoyed by older students and it would be a great teaching tool to incorporate multiculturalism.
