Story summary:  Rocket is learning to write with the help of his teacher, a little yellow bird.  Rocket does much exploring to look for words and inspiration.

My reaction:  This book brings out the struggle that many students encounter when learning to write.  The teacher in the story is very patient and encouraging.  What a great way to encourage students as they learn to write.

Activity:  Put students into groups of two or three and take them for a observation walk outside. Have them write down any words that they come up with on their walk.  Build a “word tree” in your classroom with the words students find.
