Story summary: Esperanza and her Mama flee Mexico to California. They end up in a camp for Mexican farm workers. Life is much harder for Esperanza than it has ever been and she really has to take a step back and look at who she is and where she fits in. There are many big changes in her life but she must persevere to make life better for all around her.
My reaction: This a beautiful story and brings to life how we should always love and respect people for who they are because circumstances may change anyone's situation in life so who we are on the inside is what matters. It is also a good reminder for us to reflect on how we treat others and how important others are to us.
