1999
Ages: 7-10
Genre(s): Informational
Summary: Starting with ancient times, this book goes through the history of measurement, explaining why standard units are necessary and how they came about. An interesting look at measurements used during ancient times and all the way to current methods of measurement.
My reaction: This book is a great way to explain standard measurements to children. The illustrations are fun and informative. The information given is clear and simple.
Activity: Have students follow suggestions given in the book and measure several items around the room or even out in the building and school yard. Students will then develop a way of their choice to "teach" standard measurements to classmates.
